Commodity waste management services
Commodity waste management sits at the heart of what we do at Waste Mission. We specialise in turning waste into resource, helping manufacturers cut costs, increase resource efficiency and demonstrate real sustainability every day.
Our commodity waste management service can turn your waste streams into valuable resources and move you towards 100% diversion from landfill.
What commodity waste management means
When we talk about commodity waste management, we really mean recovering value from materials you currently pay to dispose of – from metals, plastics and cardboard to more complex streams such as coolants and powders. But instead of treating waste as simply an overhead, we work with your production teams to classify, separate and process complex waste streams so they can be recycled or repurposed as secondary raw materials. By prioritising processing, recycling and recovery routes for each material, we help you achieve 100% diversion of waste from landfill.
Why commodity waste is core to Waste Mission
Commodity waste is not an add‑on for us – it sits at the heart of our approach to waste management. We focus on helping manufacturers move from traditional disposal models to genuine resource recovery, with tailored solutions backed by real case studies and quantifiable results.
Our teams design practical container systems, collection schedules and treatment routes that fit seamlessly into your operations, uncomplicating even the most complex waste streams. With a single supplier solution, you have one point of contact to coordinate commodity, hazardous and general waste activity across your sites.
If you would like to see how this works in practice, you can also book a demo of our customer portal to explore real‑time reporting, dashboards and documentation.
How we work with manufacturers
We start with a waste audit to analyse your waste streams, locations, flows, and existing waste contracts. We’ll map where recyclable materials are on site and the processes they undergo. By identifying ways to better segregate, contain and handle, we help create both environmental and financial improvements.
We then design a tailored system for your manufacturing environment. This might include:
- Bespoke containment for specific commodities to support day‑to‑day production.
- Solutions for liquid and hazardous streams, using appropriate bulk containers and compliant onward treatment.
- Collection schedules aligned with production volumes and storage capacity, supporting both operational efficiency and carbon reduction.
- Ongoing advice and training to keep segregation standards high and to adapt to new machines, products or materials on site.
We then track performance through your portal dashboard, with regular reviews to ensure recycling rates, cost savings and diversion from landfill continue to improve over time.
Key waste types we manage
We manage a wide range of commodity waste streams generated in manufacturing, engineering and industrial environments. From specialised sorting technology for recycling commodities to innovative recovery processes, our approach ensures that every piece of waste is seen not as an end but as a new beginning. With Waste Mission, you’re not just contributing to a more sustainable world but positioning your business as a strategic leader in environmental stewardship and circular economy practices.
Traceable results, financial gains
For manufacturers, commodity waste streams like metals and specialised plastics represent a clear financial opportunity, but only with verifiable data and efficient segregation. Waste Mission’s customer portal provides the complete end-to-end traceability required to maximise that return. We give you real-time reporting, turning every collection into a documented financial event. This system allows you to prove resource diversion, optimise segregation for maximum rebates, and ensure every payout pairs with competitive commodity pricing.
Turning metals and coolants into value
SRD Engineering, a precision engineering company supplying the aerospace, automotive, and medical sectors, asked us to find a better route for its redundant carbide tools. We installed bespoke carbide containment across the factory so staff could easily segregate these high‑value materials, maximising both recycling performance and financial return while working with day‑to‑day production.
As the relationship developed, we extended the system to cover metal swarf, offcuts, redundant coolant and plastic swarf, introducing sealed, lockable stillages, aligned plastic containment and a mobile tipping bin system feeding larger containers. This improved traceability, reduced handling, created more efficient coolant management and increased revenue from recycled metals.

The biggest benefit I have seen from Waste Mission is their ability to scale up the service offered to suit what we have needed. From changing the swarf containers to make sure they are suitable for new machines, to increasing the collection frequency so we aren’t wasting floor space on swarf. We have had advice, and a solution offered to any issues our growth has seen. With the volume of swarf we are now generating, the assistance given has allowed us to maximise the financial returns whilst minimising the time, effort and floor space needed.
